Journalist at heart and multimedia storyteller by passion. Lela Ahmadzai creates content and shares knowledge to connect people – her work is about people and their stories with topics such as conflicts, gender and war crimes and deals with political and social issues of our time. Born and raised in Kabul, Lela came to Germany at the age of 17. In 2009, she completed her master's degree specialising in photojournalism and documentary photography at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Her photographs have been published in numerous international magazines such as Der Spiegel, Los Angeles Times, Standart, Courrier International, ARD, Arte, BBC Pashto and many other outlets and have been shown in international exhibitions, including the Willy-Brandt-Haus, World Press Photo, Amsterdam, Fotoistanbul, KOLGA Tiblisi Photo, Photo Kabul, "Mediterranean Biennial Sakhnin" Israel, "Futebol", Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro. In 2014, her multimedia short film "Silent Night - The Kandahar Massacre" was honoured with the World Press Photo Award in the Short Feature category. Lela Ahmadzai has been working for Handbook Germany: Together since 2016, initially as a freelance multimedia content creator and now as the head of the multimedia team.
