Chancenkarte

I have done my masters degree here in Germany. I got the post study job search visa, I had a full time job but the salary was not enough to change to work visa so it was rejected. I changed to chancenkarte in July. I have had 3 job offers till now but all of them rejected because of the visa. They didn’t provide me with a contract because they needed a visa that allowed me to work full time. I also tried to get a work visa on one of the job offer, the immigration office took too long to reply(1 month) and by that time the company already filled up the job position with someone else.
With all this going on, and since managing everything with a part time salary is getting quite impossible now, i am considering to move back to my home country.
I have also heard from a lot of people now that companies are hesitant to give a full time contract to people with the chancenkarte, because there are a lot of people who are not getting a job because of this visa.
Is it the wise choice to leave germany now, or is it better to try a bit more till July?

Hi, Rose0802 !

First of all, it has to be your choice and decision. I’m not an immigration expert, but I’d like to share some thoughts and reliable info that might help you decide more clearly.

If you already have a German Master’s degree and professional experience, you might actually qualify for a Blue Card or a work visa directly, if you find a job with the required salary level. In that case, it might be worth contacting your local immigration office again and asking whether they can pre-check your eligibility before your next application.

You can also contact these official advice services before making your final decision:

If you can manage to stay a bit longer financially and emotionally, it might be worth trying until July — especially since you’re already in the system and have good qualifications. But this is my opinion, not a fact.

Whatever you choose, it’s not a failure — just a step in your journey.

Good Luck,

Anna, volunteer
