Kateryna Scheffler was born and raised in Ukraine. In 2008, she moved from Kyiv to Germany. She first attended the Karl-Liebknecht Gymnasium in Frankfurt (Oder) and then began her law studies at the European University Viadrina, focusing on criminal law.

During her studies, she worked as a volunteer translator and accompanied refugees during their appointments with the authorities.

In 2020-2021, she completed her legal clerkship at the Frankfurt (Oder) District Court and began writing her doctoral thesis.

Since 2022, she has been assisting refugees from Ukraine who came to Germany. In April 2022, she joined the Handbook Germany team as the Ukrainian editor to continue supporting Ukrainian refugees in Germany.
